Annette Metoyer, “Creole Lady Sings the Blues”
Annette is a descendant of the Historical Creole People known as "gens de couleur libre", from Natchitoches Louisiana. Direct descendant of Marie Thereze Coincoin and Pierre Claude Metoyer. Her parents Angelbert and Jesweater (Roque) Metoyer are both from Natchitoches Parish. She dedicates this web site to her parents and her entire family. She was raised in 5th Ward Texas around the boundaries of French Town as it is called and attended Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church as well as the school.
Annette got her first big break with the Legendary Black Top Recording Artist Grady Gaines back in 1995. where she opened his show in Beeville Texas on April 27 and got a standing ovation. She continued to performed with Mr. Gaines for 4 or 5 years traveling back and forth from Nixon Texas to Houston every week-end. She eventually moved back to Houston and continued singing with Mr. Gaines and also with the late but great Paul Richard and the Zydeco Rockers.
She has also worked with some of Houston's and the surrounding area's finest bands such as "The Superior Band" out of Wharton Texas, "The Men In Black" out of Belleville Texas, "The Major Tones" of Houston, "Down to Earth" from Galveston, Bourbon Street Band of Houston, and "LomAzul" of Nixon, Texas, Milton Hopkins and the Hit City Blues Band out of Houston Texas. She really enjoys when she has the opportunity to share the stage with the people that has left such a great impact in her singing career such as one of her mentors, Ms. Trudy Lynn, who unknowingly has given her the courage and the strength to continue with her dreams and to overcome all odds, Ms. Mary Thomas the Texas Queen of Zydeco, Ray Parsee of the All Stars, Sherman Robertson, I.J. Goosey, Lara Sims, Dee Dee Brett, the late Jimmy T99 Nelson, Sweet Mamma Cotton, The Lady D, Carolyn Blanchard, Lady Love, Tica, Zydeco Joseph, Leroy Thomas, Shinola out of Seabrook Tx, The Zydeco Players, and Melvin Forteson a great announcer and Annette's first promoter.
Annette has gotten a group of fantastic musicians together and started a band called "The Guys" who now performs with her at all of her gigs. They consist of Mike "Gold Finger" Stone on Keyboard, James "Big Brother" Parker Jr. on Bass, Lil Ray "The Angel" Ybarra on Lead and James "BaBa" Bennett on Drums. In October 2007 she was able to share the stage with Barbara Lynn. "The Guys" even backed Ms. Lynn up for her show.
She has opened shows for some of the greats such as Bobby Bland, Lattimore, Mel Waiters, Patrick Green, Denise LaSalle, Rue Davis and many others.
Annette is featured on two of her friends CD's. One by James H. Parker Jr., the bass player in her band "The Guys" on his CD entitled "I Did It" song entitled "Sweet Treat Lover", and the other by Lil Porter and the Zydeco Hustlers, "On Our Way" song entitled "For the Sake of Love" which also features J. Paul and the New Breeds and Kid Reece.

Meet "DA GUYZ"
RUSSELL LAMB
Lead Guitar & Vocals
"Smooth Groove"
Russell Lamb’s first gig with Annette and the Guys was at the House of Blues on March 20, 2009 He came into the club a very quiet man. Didn’t say much to anyone. Stayed to himself. But when the music started to play, Russell had a “Smooth Groove” about him. You could tell he knew what he was doing.
Russell has been in the business for several years. He has played with some of the best musician around. Just to name a few Erwin Starr as well as Joe Tex Sr. He has played with various bands in and around the Houston, Chicago, and Europe area. Russell has traveled overseas on several occasions.
JAMES "Baba"BENNETT
Drummer
"THE HEARTBEAT"
James Bennett, better known to everyone as “Baba”, started out at an early age in the music industry. One of the first people he played behind was one of Houston’s own, the legendary blues artist Sherman Robertson.
James experimented in all types of music from Blues to Zydeco. He has had the opportunity to play for such artist like Millie Jackson, Curly Cormier, The Newbreeds band, Bobby Lewis, Larry Guy, Lady V, Melvin House, Ray Brown and the Icess band as well as the TSU Tornadoes.
In James own words “ I took a vacation for about 15 years but now I'm back and ready to go. All you drummers look out. I’m back with a boom. I have been playing with Annette Metoyer and I have really enjoyed it. She is a very talented artist”. Annette calls Baba "the heartbeat", for with out his dynamic timing, the band would die. Baba keeps everyones heart pumping long and strong. He is truly a gifted drummer and knows what he is doing.
MIKE STONE
Keyboards & Vocals
"GOLDFINGERS”
Mike Stone was born in New Orleans and grew up in South Louisiana through 1963. He listened to great music coming from New Orleans and late night, clear channel radio stations from across the U. S. He moved with his family to London, England from 1964 – 1969 and played in High School groups there. London was one of the musical centers of the world in those years. In addition to great English groups of the era, legendary artists such as B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Little Richard, and many others were ‘re-discovered’ and promoted in England and Europe during those years. Jazz artists such as Jimmy Smith were appreciated (paid) more in Europe than in the U.S. so they frequently toured abroad.
After moving to Houston and being out of the active scene for several years, the music started ‘itch’ started up again.
Houston has a tremendous music scene that is vastly underappreciated and under – publicized. Mike is humbled to have been given the great privilege and honor to perform on ‘B-3’ organ, piano, and keyboards with truly amazing Houston musicians as Milton Hopkins, I. J. Gosey, Sherman Robertson, Pete Mayes, Curley Cormier, and numerous others. He has also been blessed to work with wonderful vocalists such as Annette Metoyer, Trudy Lynn, Bobby Lewis, Ardis Turner, etc.
At various times Mike has had the opportunity to perform in supporting acts for Gatemouth Brown, Marcia Ball, and Calvin Owens. He has also recorded CDs Michael Heymann and Brad McCool.
Mike is truly grateful for the chance to perform for others. “When someone comes up to me during a break or after a show and says tells me they enjoyed the music, it’s one of the best feelings in the world.”
JAMES PARKER JR
Bass & Vocals
"BIG BROTHER"
James was born in El Paso; Texas grew up in Marlin, Texas and moved to Houston at the age of 17. As a young man James would always beat on objects around the house, he had rhythm. His dad bought him his first guitar (lead Guitar). James took two strings off of the Lead Guitar and made it a Bass, he always liked the bottom. He played Percussions, Drums, in the talent shows around town but somehow he always came back to the Bass Guitar.
As he grew in music he began to set in with different groups around town but he always wanted to take his music further. His first taste of becoming a real musician was when James performed in Chicago and performed with a known blues artist Mr. Buddy Ace, in the Harpo’s studio. He has also shared the stage with artist like Mac & Company, Ray Parcee and the All Stars, renowned artist Johnnie Taylor, Bobby Blue Bland, Chuck Stronge, Beau Jocque and Taste of Quality Band.
James has always had dreams of arranging and composing his own music. Annette and James have been friends for about 30 years, so it was only natural that she be on his first CD entitled James H. Parker Jr. “I Did It”.
